‘From fire and flags to a single spotlight’ — Kid Rock stuns with a reimagined take on “‘Til You Can’t” at Turning Point USA’s All-American Halftime Show, turning spectacle into statement

The controversial star launched his two-song set in explosive fashion with “Bawitdaba,” as flames shot skyward, red-white-and-blue lights flooded the venue, and a massive American flag filled the backdrop. Dressed in jean shorts, a white fur vest over a black tank and a fedora, Kid Rock stormed the stage before briefly disappearing, allowing a violinist and cellist to shift the mood.

When he returned, it was under his real name — Robert Ritchie — and under a lone spotlight. Wearing an all-denim look and a baby-blue Detroit trucker hat, he delivered a stripped-back, country-leaning version of “‘Til You Can’t,” originally recorded by Cody Johnson. Keeping Johnson’s lyrics intact through the opening verses, Ritchie added his own verse near the end, transforming the song into something personal and pointed. Backed by a full band — including a drum emblazoned with the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution — the performance marked a sharp tonal shift, trading bombast for reflection and closing his set with a message that lingered long after the final note faded.
